Shading techniques, pattern and line quality to create Unity and Balance

Abstract composition using 4 shading techniques & at least 4 distinct values.

Objective: Continue to explore pencil drawing techniques and demonstrate a developing understanding of composition.  

Try to create a balanced and unified design using hatching, cross-hatching, blending and stippling.  Include a variety of line width and weight.  Incorporate patterns and shading together to create an original composition. 

Remember your ways to achieve unity from the lecture.  For example repeating motifs, values and shapes will create a sense of unity.  When finished, cover your assignment with tracing paper, sign the back and be prepared to turn it in Tuesday.  

Size: 8x10 inches.  

Hint: Use drafting tape to tape of sides and keep border clean.
